How Do I Request a Prescription Renewal?
If you wish to request a prescription renewal, please contact your pharmacy and ask them to fax a renewal request directly to Essa Family practice: 705-424-8886 (fax).
How Long Will a Prescription Renewal Take?
Please allow several business days for the request to be processed and returned to the pharmacy as your doctor receives a high volume of correspondence daily. Be sure to request prescription renewals at least one week before your medication runs out.
Will There Be a Cost Associated with This?
Renewal prescriptions without seeing your physician is not a service that is covered by OHIP, however, this service is provided free of charge by Dr. Seward.
Why Did My Doctor Ask Me to Book An Appointment?
There are certain circumstances when your doctor will want to assess/examine you in person before renewing your medication in order to determine whether this current medication and dosage are still in your best interests. If this is the case, you will be notified to book an appointment with Dr. Seward before your prescription can be renewed.
Prescriptions Renewals Without Seeing Your Doctor
Patients with chronic health conditions should maintain regular office follow-up. Medications may be refilled by a fax from the pharmacy, if a patient is running short of prescribed treatment(s). Please note that if you require a new medication, a change in dose of an existing medication, or if you have any concerns about your current medication, you should book an appointment to see Dr. Seward instead.
​Please ensure we have your current pharmacy information. If you have changed your pharmacy please call the office and provide us with an update.
With the use of electronic medical records, Dr. Seward will send prescription renewals to the pharmacy we have listed in our data base. Any change in your pharmacy needs to be kept current in your patient file.
